SMACenter's Watercolor Concentrations

It is not often that watercolorists can have so much access to study with some of the best instructors in their field at one location ---- St. Mary's Art Center, fondly called the SMACenter.  This season, Betty Carr, Jan Sitts, Diane Maxey, Dale Laitinen, Dianne Stearns, Frank Francese, Richard McDaniels and Sandy Imperatori all are offering high quality watercolor workshops.  Check out the workshop descriptions, samples of their work and pictures of the newly renovated and redecorated SMACenter at www.smacenter.org.  Don't miss out on signing up for one or more of these wonderful workshops.

The SMACenter 2008 Featured Artists

St. Mary's Art Center, called the SMACenter, has just finished lining up a great series of instructors for the 2008 season. Among those who will teaching this year are: Pam Brekas, Claudia Knous, Al Weber, Betty Carr, Jan Sitts, Diane Maxey, Cynthia Delaney, Dale Laitnen, Diane Stearns, Patty Holly, Francheskka Clark, Chad Hagen, Candace Nicol, Frank Francese, Ron Arthaud, Richard McDaniel, Sandy Imperatori, Deon and Trish Reynolds, Jean LeGassick, Carol Folvary-Anderson, and Erik Holland. Dates are now posted on the website www.smacenter.org and soon descriptions, materials lists, etc will be ready to go. Don't miss out visiting St. Mary's Art Center during the 2008 Season. If you can't make a class check out renting rooms at the center to create your onw retreat with family or friends.

St. Mary's Art Center's Traveling Exhibition

St. Mary's Art Center, fondly called the SMAC Art and Retreat Center, just hit the road with the Dusty Roads Artists' Trail Traveling Exhibit. First stop on the journey is the Eureka, Nevada Courthouse Gallery where the community rallied for an artists' reception Thursday October 25th for the six artists featured in the show: Sidne Teske, Carol Brown, Erik Holland, Julie LaCroix, and Francheskaa Clark. These six artists live and or work among the dusty backroads and pinons of rural Nevada. The SMACenter is proud to present the works of such fine artists. The show will be on display in Eureka until the end of November, where it will travel on to Reno's Wilbur D. May Museum to be on display January through March. The show will complete the tour in Virginia City's Comstock History Center from March to June. Newest Nevada Retreat Center - The SMACenter

St. Mary's Art Center, fondly called the SMACenter may offer top notch art workshops with nationally ranked instructors in the summer, but starting in November the SMACenter becomes a charming retreat center.  Groups from 10 to 30 can escape to the mountains and hold meetings, team building sessions, workshops or reunions in this delightful setting.  Staff is available to assist with design, programming or special events. St. Mary's Art Center sits on five acres on the edge of historic Virginia City, Nevada.  This 130 year old building, which has recently been renovated and redecorated boast fifteen charming sleeping rooms, six and one half bathrooms, two meeting areas, a lounge, a dining room and finally two fully equipped kitchens, which make it easy for groups to do their own cooking or arrange for catering. SMAC's Emerges as a Retreat Center!

St. Mary's Art Center, fondly called the SMACenter, now is open as a retreat center.  For six months of the year St. Mary's Art Center offers intensive art workshops with nationally recognized instructors but now from November through April the center is turned into a six month a year retreat center located on five beautiful acres in historic Virginia City, Nevada.

Recently renovated and redecorated, the SMACenter, has unlimited hot water, high speed wireless throughout the building, fifteen sleeping rooms, six and 1/2 baths and numerous nooks and crannies for people to curl up and read a book or meet in small groups.  For groups of 10 to 30, St. Mary's Art Center, is the perfect place to escape and meet.  Larger rooms can easily be set-up with tables, chairs and equipment to help groups get down to work. With two fully equipped kitchens groups can easily fix their own meals or arrange for catering. The SMACenter staff is available for workshop design and programming suggestions whether it is a business group, corporate teams, clubs or church groups.

What Is The Best Kept Art Secret?

For the past forty-two years the St. Mary's Art Center, fondly called the SMACenter, may been continuously offering week-long and weekend art workshops but few people know the center has been going through a magical transformation, from a installing a complete new heating system, new kitchen/dining room with a dishwasher, on-demand hot water to high speed wireless throughout the building.  Additionally two new new gallery spaces were developed, a second studio added, walls removed to add light, and nine sleeping rooms painted and totally redecorated  also await artists and art lovers.  What are you waiting for?  Call St. Mary's Art Center (775) 847-7774 to schedule a visit or to get into one of the workshops before they are all filled. The center is open to the public Tuesdays-Sundays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the tourist season May through October.

Brushstrokes Art Adventure

Saturday, April 14, 2007, St. Mary's Art Center will be holding their Brushstrokes Art Adventure.  The public is invited to  join in all the fun of Making A Mark on St. Mary's Art Center.  Admission is free, however, RSVP's are required as there will be limited availability. St. Mary's Art Center Art Classes

For the last forty-two years art classes have been offered at St. Mary's Art Center, which was built in 1875 as the St. Mary's Louise Hospital in Virginia City, Nevada.  Unique for art centers, St. Mary's offers retreat style workshops featuring national and internationally recognized instructors who room on site with the workshop participants.  With studios open 24 hours a day workshop participants spend a week focusing on their art.  Whether sitting on the expansive front porch, around the large dining room or lounging in one of the fifteen quaint sleeping rooms, artists leave St. Mary's Art Center refreshed and toting a large group of new pieces of work.
